Interpreting – chuchotage

Chuchotage or whispered interpreting is a unique type of simultaneous interpreting used in very special settings.

The interpreter is simultaneously whispering translated statements for one or at most two participants of the meeting.

Sometimes, if the audience is larger, such interpreting involves the use of special devices – portable interpretation systems that offer more comfort for other participants of the meeting who are not listening to the translation and hence are not distracted by the interpreter’s “whispering.”
